From the 19th to the 23th of September, WavEC Offshore Renewables, represented by José Cândido and Craig White (ESR13), organised the 5th Training of the project focusing on Economics, Environment, Licencing and Marine Spatial Planning.

It delivered multidisciplinary knowledge and skills to ESRs who enjoyed having this new perspectives of the Floating Wind industry. Indeed, the training week focused on environmental, legal, economic and social aspects of offshore wind, presenting the whole process of farm development.
WavEC staff kindly provided lectures on their core competencies, alongside external lecturer from UCC and DTU.

To conclude the week, the group had the privilege to visit the Wind Float Atlantic site, located 20km off the shore of Viana do Castello. Having the chance to see 3 floating wind turbines of 8.4MW each, operated by the Wind Plus consortium, is definitely inspiring for ESRs as they can witness the materialisation of all the research in the field.

Victor Benifla, ESR8 and ESR representative shared his testimony after the training:

I had an amazing training in Lisbon with the wonderful people from WavEC and the other ESRs. Topics such as marine spatial planning, environment and economics seemed a little fuzzy and unexciting to me, but thanks to the hands-on sessions and speakers who made it all interactive, they turned out to be very interesting and useful. And what about the WindFloat Atlantic project site visit to end the week on a high note... Astonishing ! I never thought I would get the chance to see these massive floating wind turbines. Thanks to the FLOAWER project and the people at the Viana do Castelo site! Another BIG thank you to Craig who organized the week and the different events and activities like a pro! Thanks to him and the WavEC team, we felt at home and were able to discover and enjoy all the beautiful things Lisbon has to offer! It definitely makes you want to come back ;)

Many thanks to the organisers, José and Craig who did an amazing job, both for organising lectures and side-activities. Big thanks to the whole WavEC team for welcoming us, and to WindPlus/OceanWinds consortium for giving some of their time to coordinate the visits.
